Charging the battery of your EV in 15 to 20 minutes while you do your supermarket shopping – this is now possible at tegut… in Dipperz. Today, during a press event, a High-Power charging station with two charging points was officially put into operation in the customer car park, where customers can charge their electric cars with up to 300 KW of charging power. The launch in Dipperz is a significant milestone for the cleantech company Numbat: The first Numbat outside its home region, Allgäu, is now a reality – and many more to follow.
Christian Günther, responsible for energy management at tegut…, regards this new offer as a real added value for customers while shopping: “In future, charging the electric car will no longer need to be planned, but will take place quickly and conveniently on the side. With the cleantech company Numbat, we have found a partner who is not only just as customer oriented as we are but who also has the necessary know-how and the appropriate technology to implement such a High-Power charging offer in a way that is compatible with the grid.”
Up to now, the implementation of an ultra-fast charging infrastructure has been challenging: a complicated connection to the medium-voltage electricity grid, transformer stations with currently long delivery times for transformers, as well as serious construction measures and high investment costs have so far prevented or at least significantly hindered a necessary expansion of fast-charging points.
“Numbat relies on a combination of High-Power charging station and battery storage,” explains Martin Schall, Co-Founder and Managing Director of Numbat GmbH, and adds: “On the one hand, installation is quick and uncomplicated, transformer stations are unnecessary, and tegut… also benefits from a sustainable and directly implementable fast charging offer for its customers. On the other hand, Numbat optimises power consumption in department shops through energy management, thus achieving cost savings.”
At today’s press event for the commissioning of the High-Power Charging Station in Dipperz, numerous customers, who were interested in the technology and the new offer, were also present. The tegut… supermarket in Dipperz is just the beginning with its fast-charging service. In September 2022 tegut… and Numbat announced that they would jointly implement up to 1,000 rapid charging points at almost all locations with open-air parking areas in Germany. This means that only eight months have passed from planning to implementing the first Numbat. In addition, Numbat will work with other cooperation partners, such as the gas station chain PM Pfennings Mobility and the electronics retailer EURONICS to rapidly expand the ultra-fast charging infrastructure in all regions of Germany, with many of the installations already planned for 2023.
The cleantech startup Numbat combines three worlds with its patented technology: A High-Power Charger (HPC) for the trendy topic of e-mobility, an integrated battery storage for energy management solutions, and all this with an environmentally friendly approach to contribute to the energy transition, especially with the patented multi-lifecycle concept. The founders are Dr.-Ing. Maximilian Wegener and Martin Schall, both long-time managers in battery technology. The company is based in Kempten (Allgäu).
